The ZigBee Alliance and its members have always been closely linked to the standards of the Internet of Things that are applicable to the creation and maintenance of the market. The Alliance is concerned with the issues mentioned in the recent report by the Weizmann Institute/Dalhousie University in Darthouse, Canada.
The ZigBee Alliance responded to the Philips Hue Bulb hacker report: there are no security issues.
In fact, none of the ZigBee standards have the defects described in the report.
The flaws mentioned in this report are caused by software errors in a chip manufacturer's application. This is not a problem with the ZigBee protocol, but more is an implementation issue. Just like many technology platforms, such as smartphones and everyday computing devices, in order to ensure the security of devices and systems, we should use the latest software version and pay attention to timely upgrades. The attack exploits the internal interface defects of this software upgrade and does not apply to the entire system or product line.
The problem with this smart light bulb referred to in the report scenario has been resolved and sent to all customers using the chip stack. We have also learned that Philips Hue uses software components from this protocol stack vendor in some of its product lines. Philips Hue has completed the patch and released the updated firmware to all sold products. The ZigBee standard itself has no need to change.
