ON Semiconductor, which drives energy-efficient innovation, has introduced three new devices that drive 3-phase brushless DC (BLDC) motors with 180° sine waves. The LV8811, LV8813, and LV8814 are designed for use in cooling fans for home appliances such as refrigerators, as well as gaming and computing devices, with voltages ranging from 3.6 volts (V) to 16 V, 6 V to 16 V, and 3.6 V to 16 V. These highly integrated, software-free motor drivers simplify motor control circuit design by eliminating software development time. In addition, these devices reduce noise and vibration for energy-efficient motor control deployment. They can be controlled by a single Hall sensor, reducing system cost. The motor speed can be set by a pulse width modulation (PWM) signal or a DC voltage. Moreover, their lead angles are easy to adjust.
LV8811, LV8813 and LV8814 combine protection functions such as overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage and overtemperature. It also includes locking rotor protection and automatic recovery mechanisms. The soft start and shutdown functions ensure continuous working stability.
