Two cities in Pennsylvania join the Cree LED City Program

Recently, the two cities of Pennsylvania, Ambler and Sunbury, have announced their participation in the Cree LED City Program, an international project to promote and deploy energy-efficient LED lighting. The streetlights in both cities have been replaced with LED streetlights, which are manufactured by Spring City EL ectrical Manufacturing Company and use Cree's XLamp MC-E and XP-E LEDs.

A decorative urban LED streetlight has been installed along the track in downtown Ambler, 15 miles north of Philadelphia. Each street lamp has a maximum power of 74W and emits a light source equivalent to a 150W high pressure sodium lamp. Spring City expects 60% energy savings per LED streetlight, and can save $15 in annual maintenance costs or $100 per year in installation costs.

Recently, the city of Sunbury on the banks of the Susquehanna River has completed the installation of 10 Washington-style LED street lights, with an expected energy savings of 43% compared to conventional metal halide lamps. Sunbury City officials predict that LED luminaires will save $29 per luminaire per year and, overall, $290 per year. (http://?i=1281015820767)
