On October 1, South Korea issued G/TBT/N/KOR/234, No. 235 on electronic safety standards, which are intended to change with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) requirements for lighting electrical electromagnetic compatibility. Revise the relevant domestic standards, and list the LED lighting fixtures to clarify their specific requirements. According to experts, the previous standards have not listed LEDs separately to make strict regulations.
Guangdong Province is the main province of LED products in China, and Dongguan and Zhongshan have a considerable scale of LED industry clusters. According to incomplete statistics, the annual export volume of Dongguan enterprises reached 1 billion yuan, accounting for about 20% of the national total. Leading LED companies such as Qinshang Optoelectronics and 100% Technology have successively set up sales offices in South Korea.
In accordance with the principle of transparency in the Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT Agreement) under the WTO framework, members may advise the advisory body on the proposed technical measures for a period of 60 days.
Therefore, experts and representatives of various enterprises made comments and suggestions on the technical standards to be revised in Korea through the council. Many members believe that although the standard sets technical requirements for new LED lamp converters, there is no corresponding detection method, which may be a major loophole. The organizers said that they will submit these opinions and submit them to the Korean side to maximize the convenience of LED export enterprises.
