South Asia Optoelectronics closes the upstream and middle line of LED, and transforms into green energy business

LED lighting manufacturer Nanya Optoelectronics began to develop system products in the past two years, and closed the LED mid-stream production line in 2016; and in line with the government's green energy policy and expanded revenue, it actively transformed into a green energy business in the second half of 2016. The author visited Luo Ronghuang, deputy general manager of South Asia Optoelectronics, to discuss the transformation process of South Asia's optoelectronics and the future direction of the company.

LED lighting strives to differentiate

In order to enhance the company's competitiveness, Nanya Optoelectronics began to transform the company into a "lighting one-stop" business model a few years ago: In addition to commercial LED lighting sales, in order to develop industrial lighting, South Asia Optoelectronics added design planning, construction and Management, integration of installation to after-sales service. Because South Asia has a type of electrical installation license, it is more unpredictable in construction.

In the overseas market, South Asia Optoelectronics hopes to open up overseas markets. For example, the proportion of traditional lamps in the United States is still high. South Asia has been promoting LED lamps produced by South Asia Optoelectronics since the beginning of 2016. In the Philippines, the local electricity price is high, so LED lighting development opportunities are large. South Asia also has multiple sites in the Philippines. Vice President Luo estimated that the US and Philippine markets will grow in 2017.

In order to transform, South Asia will only accept project projects in terms of lighting, and the business field will be mainly office, in order to differentiate from LED lighting industry. Luo Ronghuang, deputy general manager, said that pure lighting manufacturers in the industry are almost impossible to survive. How can we find ways to change the operating model? This is why South Asia Optoelectronics has recently entered the solar photovoltaic project and is actively transforming.

Three arrows of energy creation, energy storage and energy conservation

Deputy General Manager Luo Ronghuang further stated that Taiwan's solar energy technology is already well-versed, and South Asia Optoelectronics has cooperated with AUO and Sunshine Solar Panels to discuss solar energy construction. As a result, the company's philosophy and practice have expanded from the original "energy saving" to "energy saving, energy creation, energy storage." Since 2017, South Asia will undertake enterprise roof-type solar energy projects, including factories and Taiya gas stations.

In addition to the development of solar photovoltaic concept, South Asia will also combine the lithium-ion battery raw materials and modules produced by the lithium-iron battery division of the parent company's Formosa Plastics freight to develop the three products into system products. The "Mobile LED Lighting Car" unveiled at LED Taiwan this year is a system product that combines solar panel power generation, lithium battery energy storage, and LED lighting.

This product is commissioned for US customers and is suitable for the development of lighting in a vast area. The built-in GPS tracking function of the lithium battery prevents the battery from being stolen. However, there is no demand for this product at present.

Looking ahead, the solar photovoltaic project will first target Taiwan as the main target market. In 2017, there will be a 1.7MW factory roof construction plan. The solar photovoltaic package project is estimated to account for 30% of the overall revenue. In 2017, it is estimated to invest 130 million Taiwan dollars in solar photovoltaic projects.
