Make way for new platform: Atom Z500 series ready to retire

Intel issued a notice today that the Atom Z500 series processors and supporting chipsets have been transferred to the process of suspension of production and delisting.

Atom Z500 series processor development codename Silverthorne, are single-core dual-threaded design, 45nm process manufacturing, clocked at 1.20-2.13GHz, thermal design power consumption is only 1.4-2.5W, with a single chip design SCH chipset US15X, mainly for MID mobile Internet devices, pocket computers and other ultra-portable products.

Orders for Atom Z515/Z520/Z540/Z550/Z560 and US15X will not be cancelled or returned after May 20, 2011. Shipments will cease after November 4, 2011, which is a full year later.

In fact, Intel has previously released a new platform Moorestown, including the Lincroft Atom Z600 series processor, Langwell PCH MP20 chipset, focusing on high-end smart phones, tablet and other mobile products to support Android, Moblin 2.1, MeeGo and other operating systems.

By the end of this year, Intel will begin mass production of the new platform "Oak Trail", the processor is still the Lincroft Atom Z600 series, the chipset is planned for Whitney Point, integrated SATA, HD Audio, HDMI and various I / O controllers and many other Module. The platform is designed for netbooks and thin and light flatbeds. It is said that power consumption is reduced by an average of 50%, and HD video playback is fully supported. It supports various operating systems such as MeeGo, Windows 7, and Google Chrome OS.
