According to foreign media sources, Ericsson and Telstra have successfully conducted a 1Tbps optical transmission test on the 995-kilometer optical network from Sydney to Melbourne. Ericsson said that the test shows that 1Tbps technology can already be deployed in a real network environment.
Ericsson announced at MWC2013 last month that the company has signed a cooperation agreement with Telstra to start Telstra's optical network upgrade.

Telstra Engineering Director David Robertson said: "At present, we are using Ericsson's next-generation 100Gbps technology to upgrade our optical network. This test also shows that 1Tbps can also be achieved."
