China, July 4, 2013 -Austrian Microelectronics (SIX stock code: AMS) , a leading supplier of high-performance analog ICs and sensors, today announced the launch of an LED flash driver that brings superior flash light output to smartphones Compared with the flash system commonly used in smart phones today, it can achieve at least four times the brightness of light output.
The newly launched AS3630 flash driver can drive up to 8A of current, enabling mobile phone cameras to take high-resolution photos. In the past, when shooting fast-moving objects in dark light, the photos will have a trailing phenomenon, but now you can accurately capture details, while avoiding glare and discomfort, because even a flash duration as low as 10ms can provide enough Flash light.
Compared with the LED flash driver that provides the highest output power of 2A in mobile phones today, the AS3630 has up to 4 times the brightness output and supports a faster shutter speed.
The AS3630 8A LED flash driver uses an innovative architecture that makes full use of the energy stored in the supercapacitor (electric double layer capacitor-EDLC). This architecture is currently patent pending. When driving two LED lamps in series, the driver will increase the output voltage from 5.5V of the super capacitor to higher than 9V to meet the forward voltage requirements of the LED. When the output voltage of the independent capacitor is lower than the forward voltage of the LED, the boost topology adopted by the device can also make the flash illumination last longer. This architecture allows the use of very small capacitors.
The AS3630 flash driver can use the power stored in the super capacitor and the battery at the same time, and can still support additional functions such as pre-flash and video shooting lighting when the super capacitor is fully discharged.
Two flash LEDs driven in series can provide consistent light output. In high-power flash applications, parallel LED architectures often result in huge differences in output light due to differences in the production process of LED lamps. Austrian Microelectronics uses a series-connected LED architecture to perfectly match the light output from the two flash LEDs so that it is not affected by the difference in LED forward voltage.
In order to optimize system performance, Austrian Microelectronics has cooperated with passive component manufacturer Murata Japan. Many performance advantages of AS3630 will be realized by matching Murata's thin and high-capacity electric double layer capacitors.
