In 2007, China's first 110kV photoelectric composite submarine cable was successfully launched in Ningbo Oriental. In the following years, Ningbo Oriental did not stop its pioneering efforts, and successively produced multiple high-grade large-length cross-linked submarine cables for use at home and abroad. The trans-sea transmission line project has solved the electricity and communication needs of many islands and provided reliable support for the development and utilization of new energy in the country. At the same time, under the leadership of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ningbo Oriental took the lead, and several well-known institutions such as the UN Home Grid, Tsinghua University, Shanghai Cable Research Institute, and Ningbo Cable Research Institute shared the industry’s only national science and technology support program: “220kV Photoelectric composite submarine cables, submarine cross-linked cables and production equipment development." Taking this as an opportunity, Ningbo Oriental quickly rallied and pushed forward the research and development of high-tech products. In 2010, it again created Huazhang and successfully launched China's first 220kV photoelectric composite submarine cable.

As the leading company of China's submarine cables, Ningbo Oriental has built the largest submarine cable R&D and production base in China, and the 220 kV and below dry-type exchange submarine cables with independent intellectual property rights have been fully industrialized. In order to respond to the call of the national "12th Five-Year Plan" low-carbon economy, and actively promote the development and utilization of new energy and the construction of a strong smart grid, Ningbo Dongfang is now embarking on a research and development of a new type of flexible submarine cable for HVDC transmission, striving to make a contribution to China's marine economy.
