At the beginning of last year, a foot input device in crowdfunding in Indiegogo caught everyone's attention. It's called 3DRudder, from the French start-up team, and can be used as input for VR and first-person games. Recently, the team announced that 3DRudder will be sold in the land market in mid-December, priced at 20,000 yen, equivalent to about 1,200 yuan.
The controller was officially launched in March this year and is priced at US$175 (equivalent to approximately RMB1,135). And at the E3 conference held in June, the company announced that 3DRudder can be compatible with Samsung's GearVR. As for the mainstream headlines such as htc vive and Oculus Rift, it is certainly no problem. The development team also said that the purpose of designing 3DRudder is to "sooth your feet and release your hands."
The 3DRudder looks like a vinyl record with a raised hemisphere underneath the record, which is actually a VR game motion controller. The 3DRudder has four functions: it can shoot to the left or right; one foot can move the angle of view backwards forward; the feet can be twisted to adjust the angle of view; and the forward and backward can zoom in or out.
Moreover, this foot controller can only be used while sitting, the user can control the movement in the virtual environment through his own feet, and free the user's hands for more interactive experience. This controller is designed to give users more control over the game, because some games have a motion mechanism that is automatic or pointing and clicking, which can easily cause nausea. And 3DRudder claims that the foot controller is an intuitive, natural control method that users don't need to learn how to use.
