Large dead drone "royal" will adopt Movidius VPU chip

Movidius, a manufacturer of low-power computer vision processors, announced that Shenzhen drone maker Dajiang will use the Myriad 2 vision processing unit (VPU) on the latest Mavic Pro body drone. The VPU first appeared on DJI’s flagship Phantom 4 drone earlier this year.

Myriad 2 can quickly process visual information, allowing the device to sense and avoid obstacles while intelligently tracking objects during flight and even recognizing human gestures in the air. All this is achieved under the range of heat required for ultra-low power and aerospace applications. Xiaobian had previously reported that Movidius has been acquired by Intel.

Michael Perry, Director of Strategic Cooperation at DJI, stated: "Movidius' advanced technology has once again improved the capabilities of the drones of Dajiang. Like Phantom 4, Myriad 2 has made Mavic Pro even smarter."

The Mavic Pro is a compact, collapsible drone that is very small and can easily be placed in a bag. In March of this year, Dajiang demonstrated the Phantom 4 drone with Myriad VPU for the first time.
