High-end 4G chips open the way to see how MTK transforms "differentiation"

Recently, MediaTek in Shenzhen has created a great potential for the release of its true eight-core 4G single-chip MT6595/MT6795. Immediately, “Evaluation of Qualcomm” and “Transformation of the high-end market” and other evaluations continued to sound. However, according to MediaTek itself, the most important thing for its new MT6595/MT6795 is to achieve “differentiation” in terms of power consumption and performance compared with other products in the industry, and the reason for leading the mid-to-high-end product market is also to achieve 4G product high school. Low-line, and seize the 4G market as soon as possible.

How is “differentiation” reflected?

In fact, the MT6595 was released during the MWC show in Barcelona earlier this year. At that time, the MT6595, the world's first single-chip 4G LTE true eight-core smartphone system, has attracted a lot of attention from the industry, including: based on ARM size core. CorePilo technology with heterogeneous multi-tasking architecture innovation, outstanding algorithm technology, dynamic temperature control and power management technology, intelligent adjustment of each core task assignment, high-performance large core and energy-saving small core coordination, necessary The eight-core full-featured maximum performance; highly integrated ImaginaTIon Technologies' latest PowerVR Series6 graphics processing unit (GPU), support for superior image processing and rich multimedia specifications and more.

When talking about MT6595, "the second grand release", MediaTek explained that this time it is mainly for the domestic 4G market, and has the ability to mass production. "It is expected that there will be a terminal with the chip listed in August."

As the world's first 64-bit true eight-core 4G single-chip SoC supporting 2K screen, the MT6795 uses 120Hz refresh rate dynamic image display as the biggest selling point of "differentiated performance", and supports 480fps frame number 1080p quality video on the image. 1/16 super slow speed playback, support 20 megapixel lens, support video HDR, multi-frame noise reduction technology, support 4K H.265 hardware decoding, and real-time scaling of 4K/2K video images.

It can be seen that MT6595/MT6795 is aimed at the 4G flagship smartphone market. According to the evaluation of the industry, “Whether it is 4K video, 2K screen support, or a number of features in performance and video functions, this MediaTek The 4G chip has indeed surpassed many functions, and even the CPU and GPU running performances have indeed surpassed all current similar products."

Eight cores don't just focus on "nuclear"

At the same time, on MT6595/MT6795, MediaTek continued the concept of “real eight-core” that was previously made to highlight the differentiation in the “eight-core” market. In November last year, MediaTek released the "Most Eight-core" concept of the intelligent machine processor MT6592, highly integrated ARM ultra-low power eight-core CPU. With the release of this product, the industry has the view that the performance of mobile phone chips has been repeatedly improved, and even has reached the stage of excess. The eight cores are not standard on the chip. In this regard, Xie Fax Technology General Manager Xie Qingjiang said that high-speed data services on mobile terminals are more and more frequent, multi-core configuration is necessary for multimedia services and game applications, of course, multi-core also takes into account high performance and low power consumption. .

Previously, the CSDN mobile development survey report showed that more than 80% of software developers believe that multi-core multi-threaded development of mobile phone applications will become a trend, eight-core chips are inevitable.

How to catch up after the 4G era?

With the MT6595/6795, which focuses on the mid- to high-end market, the company will form a full range of high, medium and low 4G chips by the end of this year.

With China Telecom officially releasing 4G, China Unicom also announced that most 4G terminals will support FDD mode at the end of July. Full-mode 4G has become the main trend of the terminal chip industry. In this regard, the person in charge of MediaTek said that this high-end 4G mobile phone chip will be launched at this time, mainly because Lianfa Technology hopes to seize the 4G mobile phone chip market as soon as possible. General Manager Xie Qingjiang said: "The 32-bit MT6595 will be mass-produced in July. The mobile terminal products equipped with the chip are expected to be launched into the retail market from August to September; and the 64-bit eight-core 4G chip MT6795 is expected to be In the fourth quarter of this year, it entered mass production."

When asked if he was entering the 4G market time, "a bit late", Xie Qingjiang said: "MediaTek has been working hard to complete the product line this year. At present, in addition to the dual-chip 4G chip solution, mass production has begun. Now the MT6595 is released. It is 32-bit, but it is a high-end eight-core LTE SoC. It is a current task to prepare the product first. The 4G market share expansion is of course a bigger goal."

On the same day that MediaTek released MT6595/6795, China Telecom also placed 4G in high-profile cities in China, which also stimulated the production speed of “Full Mode 4G” products. In this regard, Xie Qingjiang said that MediaTek has previously released IP support for CDMA, but full-mode LTE SoC supporting CDMA will be launched in early 2015. Currently, under the demand of full-mode, MediaTek has integrated product solutions, such as MT6595. A Modem with VIA CDMA can support China Telecom's LTE terminal requirements, and the next step is that MediaTek's own SoC will launch a complete LTE chip solution supporting Telecom and China Unicom.

With the previous multi-series products, MediaTek is expected to usher in a turnover of NT$100 billion in the first half of 2014, but the proportion of 4G products in it is “still small, and will exceed the double-digit percentage in 2015.”

At the same time, MediaTek also planned the goal of “selling 15 million 4G SoCs” in 2014. The launch of Linkit platform products for the wearable market and the entry into the smart home market are also a series of new strategies for the mobile internet market.
