Germany: Refugee children learn German with robots?

Deutsche Welle Chinese Network reported that this year, Europe had to face the biggest refugee wave since the end of World War II. The issue of immigration integration has become a huge challenge for the authorities.

In Germany, knowing German is very important for employment and the education system that is integrated here. It is well known that German is very difficult to learn.

To help refugees learn German, researchers at Bielefeld University are looking for a unique solution: robotics .

Scientists hope to teach simple German to refugee children, especially children aged 4 and 5, with programmable simulation robots Nao, motion cameras and microphones.

Stefan Kopp, an expert in artificial intelligence at Bielefeld University, is the head of the Cognitive Systems and Social Communication Research Group. He said, "Providing a foreign language to each child is usually an incompetent job for the kindergarten. The robot can help."

The robot Nao has a baby face that looks very cute. In the teaching, you will also use a tablet computer to help your child learn with supplementary materials such as pictures.

Kirsten Bergmann, of the Bielefeld research group, said, "We have programmed the robots and he can communicate with the children to help the children as much as possible."

The project is estimated to be three years old. Scientists will test the ability of robots to teach German. The first robot, Nao, will enter the classroom after a year and a half.
