Support with the latest generation of ARM architecture and Linaro development tools helps developers optimize and evaluate new architecture features.
ARM has announced a development version based on the latest Cortex product called Juno.
The introduction of Juno will help developers to have real hardware to further explore the advantages of the new architecture; for architects, it will also help to promote the new architecture to other chip manufacturers.
The Juno development platform basically uses ARM's most advanced architecture in hardware. The Cortex-A57 with ARMv8 microarchitecture and the Cortex-A53 in the Juno SoC support four big.Little technologies, and the external memory can reach up to 8GB, bandwidth 12.8GB / s; GPU part is equipped with Mail-T624, using CCN-400 Bus to connect. An optional FPGA is also available to allow developers to conduct diverse development experiments. The rest also supports on-chip power and temperature management.
In the software part, Juno will support AOSP and Linaro development system. It is quite convenient for users who want to develop and verify 64-bit Android. The supporting Android system is also quite advanced. The core is GCC 4.9. The compiled Linaro Stable Kernel 3.10 will also be available in 32-bit and OpenEmbedded versions in the future, and even the recently announced Android L will be available in future support plans. The GPU API section supports OpenGL-ES 3.0 and will also support OPENCL 1.1 in the future.
Another major purpose of ARM's launch of JUNO is to provide a truly neutral benchmark. In the past, some developments were basically based on existing devices, and the price was much cheaper than JUNO. Even NVIDIA's JESTON K1 was only 192. US dollars, but SoC will be different due to different manufacturers such as Qualcomm, Samsung, NVIDIA, there may be some problems, such as Qualcomm's self-retrofitted CPU Core, Samsung's half-disabled big.Little, and NVIDAI unique Companion Core designs have different I/O performance and configurations.
The introduction of the JUNO development platform allows developers to fully evaluate the most complete architecture and technology development that ARM expects, as well as complete I/O performance and more development resiliency.
