E2v, a leading provider of high-reliability semiconductors, today announced that e2v will continue to manufacture 68040 (CQFP and CPGA packages) and 68302 and 68360 (CPGA package) microprocessors as part of a long-term partnership with Freescale.

Freescale announced the end of life (EOL) of the above 68k microprocessors in November 2013 and April 2014, and the final order accepted was up to one year after these dates. Upon the partnership agreement, e2v will continue to source 68302 and 68360 wafers from Freescale and maintain assembly and testing capabilities in Grenoble, France, to extend the market supply of these products in ceramic packaging. Freescale will stop wafer fabrication of the TS68040 microprocessor in 2015, and e2v is building wafer inventories for its customers and will be able to supply this device to customers for the next 10 years.

Richard Gibbs, president of e2v's High-Reliability Semiconductor Solutions Group, said: "By extending the lifecycle of these products for 10 years or more, we are able to provide solutions to all customers who use these processors, otherwise the products will be discontinued for them. Negative impact. We will continue to work closely with Freescale to ensure that these products continue to be supplied to our customers smoothly."
