In international new drug research and development, the common method for discovering lead compounds is high-throughput screening, but the economic cost is high, and it costs 2 to 4 million US dollars. After discovering the lead compound, medicinal chemists conduct drug design and compound synthesis based on experience, and molecular biologists test the activity of the compound, repeatedly optimize and screen, and finally find clinical candidate compounds. The time and labor costs of the drug discovery phase are relatively high, and the establishment and application of an efficient virtual screening model can reduce labor and time costs.
This time, with the help of Alibaba Cloud's medical AI, CP Tianqing obtained a brand-new compound screening method. In this new method, experimenters can build efficient machine learning models based on a small amount of experimental data and compound structures, and then quickly filter molecules with a higher probability of inactivity, thereby enriching potentially effective molecules, thereby improving research efficiency. The data results show that compared with traditional computer-aided drug design methods, the screening accuracy of this machine learning model can be increased by 20%.
In this regard, Alibaba Cloud Medical AI algorithm engineer Wang Cheng said: “Virtual screening through computers or high-throughput screening through experiments are performed in existing compound libraries. For pharmaceutical companies, it is more meaningful. Breaking through the limitations of existing compound libraries, designing compounds with brand-new structures and enriching the chemical space. At present, both parties are cooperating to develop compound generation algorithms for generating new compounds, forming virtual compound libraries, and expanding existing resources."
