[Abstract] The new Li-Fi system developed by Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands uses infrared light to transmit data at a maximum speed of over 40 Gbit/s.
Tencent Digital (Yi Jing) using infrared light to set up a wireless network can increase the speed of the network, which is 100 times faster than the existing system.
Recently, researchers have found a new way to use central “light antennas†to send light of different wavelengths to wireless devices, so that when different devices contend for network signals, the network will not be congested. We control this kind of optical system called "Li-Fi" and use this technology to transmit more securely. The researchers pointed out that Li-Fi will be put into use within five years.
The new system was developed at the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands and can transmit light at speeds in excess of 40 Gbit/s. The researchers explained that when using the new system, direct light must be obtained from the fiber. Since there are no moving parts, the system does not require maintenance and does not require electricity.
In use, we install a few light antennas in a given area. Each antenna is equipped with a pair of gratings that allow light to be emitted at different wavelengths and angles. When you walk with your phone or tablet, the device will take over if it leaves a direct light. The direct direction of light can be changed by adjusting the wavelength.
Based on radio signals, we can use optical networks to track the exact location of wireless devices. If you want to add more devices, you only need to assign different wavelengths to the same antenna. In other words, the device does not share the bandwidth, the connection is faster, and it will not be interfered by the neighbor's network.
The frequency of the existing Wi-Fi network radio signal is either 2.5 GHz or 5 GHz, and the infrared wavelength used in the new network is about 1500 nm, or more. The researchers pointed out that the frequency of light can be higher, up to 200 THz, and the bandwidth will be much higher.
The researchers confirmed through experiments that the speed can reach 42.8 Gbit/s at 2.5 meters. It is personally known that this speed is crazy. In the Netherlands, the average network is only 17.6 Mbit/s. At present, the best system can only reach 300Mbit/s speed. In other words, the Li-Fi network is 100 times faster than the Wi-Fi network.
However, researchers have only used light to download data so far. If uploading data still requires the use of radio signals, uploading does not require high bandwidth.
In another 5 years, Li-Fi will be put into use. It may be used in consumer devices such as video monitors, notebooks, and tablets.
