According to reports, on June 12, Brazilian mobile phone vendor Qbex Computadores filed a lawsuit with the United States District Court in California, complaining that Intel’s SoFIA chip was causing a fire due to design flaws that caused the phone to overheat.
According to the report, the company stated that it received 35,000 customer complaints and 4,000 customers have filed lawsuits in Brazil. These lawsuits will cause Qbex to pay at least $100 million in damages.
Qbex filed a lawsuit claiming that Intel Corp has committed fraud and falsely claimed the quality of the SoFIA chip.
However, Intel said that it should not be blamed on the phone. Intel Corporation issued a statement saying: "We are reviewing the allegations in the lawsuit. We will conduct a thorough investigation on this. However, we have no evidence that Qbex's "overheating problem" is caused by our mobile phone products."
According to reports, Qbex is a 14-year-old seller of discounted electronic products that started selling personal computers. In 2012, the company began to launch tablets and Intel-certified Ultrabook laptops. In 2015, Qbex and Intel Corporation reached an agreement to launch an ordinary smart phone with Intel's low-end mobile chipset SoFIA. The mobile phone has the Qbex brand logo and the "built-in Intel" tag. (Internship Compilation: Li Zhaoxi Audit: Tian Ruizhe)
