Infineon pushes digital configurable LED driver IC with stroboscopic control and low standby power

Modern LED technology offers many advanced features for lighting applications. The XDPL8220 from Infineon Technologies AG has further expanded its portfolio of digital configurable LED driver ICs. With this IC, the lighting industry can achieve its important features - intelligent lighting, and benefit both end users and manufacturers. The primary side control of this device eliminates the need for additional components and increases reliability while saving cost.

The XDPL8220 uses a modern two-stage architecture that eliminates low-frequency changes in the mains and adapts to changing stroboscopic standards to ensure stable output. The continuous operation of the electronic control unit (ECG) is ensured by achieving high energy efficiency and low standby power consumption. With less than 70mW of standby power, the XDPL8220 reduces power consumption in inactive mode while still responding to external events or user requests.

More flexibility, saving money and effort

The digital core of the XDPL8220 can be used in a wide variety of systems. Its advanced control algorithm provides the possibility to implement constant current mode or constant voltage mode illumination for the same circuit. The power limit mode optimizes the use of component functions while continuing to illuminate. Infineon LED drivers include a comprehensive set of parameters for adjusting operating limits. Therefore, it can be easily adjusted for the target application. At the same time, thanks to its integrated features, the XDPL8220 offers a richer portfolio of features without the need for external components.
