Yesterday, India's home appliance manufacturer Godrej expects that R290 room air conditioners will show significant growth in domestic sales in India in the next few years. Currently, Godrej cooperates with the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) to support R290 air conditioning installation and maintenance good operation demonstration and training programs in some countries.
The activities related to R290 refrigeration and air conditioning systems in Southeast Asia are increasing, and Godrej expects significant growth in sales of R290 room air conditioners in India in the next few years. The company is continuing to drive sales of these systems and has sold more than 500,000 R290 room air conditioners in India to date.
Through its Proklima project, the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) has been supporting the adoption of environmentally friendly refrigeration technology for 25 years.
Recently, GIZ commissioned a batch of R290 room air conditioner system pilot projects in Indonesia.
As part of the technical assistance project, a number of imported R290 split air conditioners were used for training and certification of skilled workers in the installation and maintenance of technical workers, which is the basis for further adoption of this technology.
Previously, a number of Indonesian and Thai room air conditioner manufacturers went to India to conduct an inspection of the GIZ Proklima project. In order to understand the progress of the R290 system in the region, the overseas media hydrocarbons21.com interviewed Philipp Munzinger, the Asian project manager of the GIZ Proklima project. He manages a wide range of projects in the refrigeration and air conditioning sector, with a focus on natural refrigerants and energy efficient projects.
Q: You recently visited India's R290 room air conditioner production facility in India. What is your experience?
A: Together with Thai and Indonesian room air conditioner manufacturers, we visited Godrej's R290 split air conditioning production and skilled workers training facility in India in March this year. Godrej is currently expanding the production of R290 room air conditioner systems and their technical training programs as they expect demand in India to grow.
With regard to training, they have a very interesting system that allows them to have complete control over their installation and maintenance technicians. For example, each skilled worker has a unique code to ensure that only technicians trained and recognized by Godrej can repair and install these systems.
They currently have 5,000 skilled workers who are formally trained based on standardized training programs.
According to Shakeel M. Jamadar, general manager of maintenance training at Godrej, the key is to have a working team that you are responsible for and who you are responsible for. I think this is the reason why 500,000 R290 air conditioners have been sold in the Indian market so far, but there has not been an accident.
Q: Is GIZ currently carrying out other projects related to the R290 system in Southeast Asia?
A: In Indonesia, we are currently working with a local manufacturer to help design the R290 chiller. Currently, pilot projects have been installed in six different application areas, including universities, training centers, office buildings and manufacturing companies.
The cooling capacity of these systems ranges from 3.7 kW to 385 kW, using a water-cooled propane chiller design. Currently, the commissioned equipment is operating well and efficiently.
We have observed that in many countries, the supply of hydrocarbon refrigerants is very limited. In Indonesia, we partnered with Pertamina, a state-owned oil and gas company that currently produces R290 refrigerant and strongly encourages Indonesian manufacturers to switch to this climate-friendly alternative technology, which may help propane in other room air conditioners, especially mini split air conditioners. Clear the road.
In addition, we are working with a number of local Indonesian manufacturers to develop a solar-powered R290 ice machine for use in the fish-freezing sector off the grid. The first prototype is expected to be commissioned in July or August this year. (Compiled from hydrocarbons21.com, by Devin Yoshimoto)
