British Academy of Film and Television Arts establishes virtual reality advisory group

The BAFTA is inviting a group of experts to join its newly established Virtual Reality Advisory Group. The mission of this independent advisory panel is to explore the impact of VR on the current movie, television and game industries, and how the next generation of story authors can exploit the potential of this new medium.

Under the leadership of Roy Talor, this advisory group will be based in Los Angeles to attract a group of experts from the field of technology and creativity to join.

“I was excited for BAFTA to invite me to be the leader of this advisory group.” said Roy Taylor, AMD's deputy director of technology and content. “I am looking forward to exploring VR capabilities and creative prospects with my peers.”

This advisory group will also study how to better integrate VR into BAFTA's mission and further praise, develop and promote the art form of film images.

Chantal Rickards, CEO of BAFTA Los Angeles, said that while virtual reality has swept the entire industry, we still have questions about how this medium influences the creative field.

Rickards revealed that BAFTA is "committed to studying the answers to these questions and finding out the best way to integrate VR into our future work."

The research results of this advisory group will be used to provide reference for BAFTA operations in the United States, the United Kingdom and the world.
