European research institute IMEC and Japanese company TaiyoNipponSanso announced that they will jointly develop high-efficiency LED component manufacturing technology; the two companies plan to lock into high-definition LCD TV backlight applications and other areas to develop higher-brightness environmentally friendly LEDs.

According to the agreement between TaiyoNipponSanso and IMEC, the two companies will develop high-efficiency and environmentally-friendly LED process technology based on IMEC's ​​compound semiconductor component technology. R&D activities will be carried out primarily at IMEC's ​​locations in Belgium and will leverage the agency's engineering expertise in large-format wafers.

IMEC President and CEO Gilbert Declerk said that TaiyoNipponSanso is a solution provider in the field of compound semiconductors, including metal organic materials, gas supply systems and MOCVD tools, etc.; cooperation between the two parties is expected to accelerate the development of high-efficiency and environmentally friendly LED manufacturing technology. .

Mike Hara, senior director of TaiyoNipponSanso, said that the company is expected to strengthen its position as a leading MOCVD tool manufacturer in the field of LED compound semiconductors through cooperation with IMEC.
